MarDon Resort Fresh News – June 29, 2023


The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1039.80 feet – dropping 1.20 feet this

week. The water temperature is right around 72 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water

temps in the sand dunes are in the mid-70s.


Walleye fishing has picked up this week! The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the

shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish

the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer.

Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. Fish tight to weed lines! It is an early morning bite – slowing down around 11:00am.


Largemouth Bass fishing has been good this week. Most fish being caught are in the 2–3-pound range with several over 5 pounds caught this week! Fish are being caught on a wide variety of baits. Jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos, lipless crankbaits and frogs have been producing. Fish 2-15 feet of water. Fish the sand dunes.


Smallmouth Bass are being caught on the face of the dam, on the rocks around Goose Island a in the sand dunes. Throw ó oz. blade baits, 5” grubs, deep diving crankbaits, and Senkos.


Trout are being caught in front of the State Park and off Medicare Beach. Troll # 5 or #7 Shad

Raps of Flicker Shads, Wedding Rings, and Needlefish. From shore cast Rooster Tails, Vibrax

spinners, or 5” curl tail grubs or fish the bottom with Power Bait. Warden Lake continues to be

good.


There are some Bluegill and Crappie being caught back in the sand dunes and up Lind Coulee. Throw worms for Bluegill and Trout Magnets for both Bluegill and Crappie. Several reports of good perch fishing back in the weeds in the sand dunes.


Channel Catfish are being caught back in the s1 and dunes. Fish are being caught on cut bait, Catfish Magic, Chicken Liver and even hotdogs! Most fish being caught are in the 8–12-pound range with two over 30 pounds caught so far this year.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1041.00 feet – dropping 1.10 feet this

week. The water temperature is right around 70 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water

temps in the sand dunes are in the low to mid 70s.


Fishing has been fair overall. A cold front and low pressure settled in for most of this past week. It is in its way out and the fishing will pick up this week for all species!


The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. The walleye fishing has been fair – but improving.

week. Water temperatures are at 70 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water temps in the

sand dunes are in the low to mid 70s.

The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1044.65 feet – dropping .55 feet this week. Water temperatures are right around 65 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water temps in the sand dunes are in the low to mid 70s.


The walleye are done spawning and will be retreating to the main lake and back into the sand

dunes to recover and feed. The walleye will be 5-30 feet deep right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes.


Largemouth Bass fishing has been good this week. A lot of 2–4-pound fish are being caught.

The Largemouth are one spawning for the most pat. Fish are being caught on black & blue jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos and lipless crankbaits and frogs. Fish 2-10 feet of water. Fish the sand dunes.


Smallmouth Bass are being caught on the face of the dam, on the rocks around Goose Island a in the sand dunes. Throw ó oz. blade baits, 5” grubs, deep diving crankbaits, and Senkos.
