Autumn Fishing Bites!

The surface water temperature on Potholes Reservoir is around 62 degrees, which is just about perfect for a good fall bite.  The walleye fishing on the humps in front of the sand dunes is as good as it gets.  Trolling a slow death hook in 8 to 29 feet of water is your best bet for catching lots of walleye and also some jumbo perch up to 14 inches.  Trolling diving plugs is also working well for the walleye.  Try # 4 and #7 shad raps as well.  Perch and Crappie fishing off the MarDon Dock has been fair.  But lots of perch and catfish are being caught in the Lind Coulee in 10 to 14 feet of water.  Trolling needlefish in this area is a great way to catch some nice fish.  As the water temps drop fall fishing will only improve.  So get the kiddos out on a fishing trip before cold weather winter hits the Central Basin.

Royal Hunt Club
The Royal Hunt Club still has season passes open for the 2015/2016 Duck, Goose & Pheasant Season.  The Royal Hunt Club is a fundraiser by the Royal Slope Youth Boosters, a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to raise money for after-school activities for kids in the Royal City area.  With 25,000 acres of privately owned farmland, hunters will find a variety of crops grown including corn, wheat and others in which to roam and hunt.   In addition to native wildlife including pheasant, duck and goose, the Royal Hunt Club raises generously sized pheasants and releases them throughout hunting season.  $300 for the season, $120 for a three-day pass. First come, first served!

Meseberg Adventures
Meseberg Adventures, LLC and the Duck Taxi have been providing quality hunting in Grant County since 1972.  Our guides are knowledgeable avid waterfowlers.  Meseberg Adventures is a father and son owned and operated business based out of MarDon Resort on Potholes Reservoir.  Potholes Reservoir and the surrounding area is home to some of the finest waterfowl hunting in the Pacific Flyway.
Guided Duck Hunts: $275, 3 man min., includes a round trip boat ride through the sand dunes of Potholes Reservoir, a guide, decoys and a retriever.  Top it off with a brunch of fresh duck shish-kabobs grilled over charcoal.

Non-Guided Water Hunts: $175 per person, 2 man min., includes a round trip to your own island with a blind which is outfitted with decoys and a small watercraft to retrieve your birds.
Guided Goose Hunts: $300 per person, 4 man min., includes a guide, Dave Smith Decoys, pits or lay-out blinds at a pre-scouted field in the Columbia Basin.  We like to finish our birds with 10-15 yard shots.  Limits are the rule, not the exception.

FISHING REPORT AUGUST 2015

August 16, 2015
Walleye catching continues to amaze all of us at MarDon Resort.  We are witnessing this at our Fish Cleaning Station with daily walleye limits brought in by residents and people vacationing.  Trolling a spinner and a crawler near the mouth of Crab Creek continues to provide quality walleye limits.

Bass fishers are enjoying some explosive top water action.  Our most popular lure has been a Rebel Pop R or a Spro Bronez-eye Popper.  Stop by the MarDon Tackle Shop we have a full selection of lures.

Now is a fine time to introduce a young angler to bass fishing off the face of O’Sullivan Dam.  Many dangerous rocks are between Goose Island and O’Sullivan Dam.  These rock piles hold some quality walleye and bass.  If you chose to bass fish the rock area be careful not to destroy your propeller.   Use a five inch plastic grub on a football lead-head casting along the face of the dam.  My favorite grub is a Yamamoto Double Tail Hula Grub.  Many colors work on the rock piles.

The MarDon Dock has been simply a blast.  Anglers of all ages are catching perch, bluegill, crappie, bass, trout and walleye.  (And we have a Trout Magnet for crappie).  Don’t miss this quality fishing opportunity with the kiddos before school starts.

Upcoming Events:
Lake Poker Run & Beach Party                     August 29, 2015
Call (509) 346-2651 for more info or visit mardonresort.com to print application forms.

Families renting our pontoon boats have been anchoring at the mouth of Frenchman’s Wasteway and catching perch, crappie, walleye, bass, bullheads and catfish.  Pictured here are Tyler and Brad of Everett Washington with a nice Walleye caught while out on a pontoon boat with their family.

Mason Loucks shows a 10 pound plus channel catfish he caught at night on a crab creek sand dunes.

Potholes Open Bass Tournament 2015

The MarDon Open Bass Tournament was a complete success!  Each of the 36 teams weighed bass on day one except for 1 boat that had motor troubles.  Dana Steiner and Andy Smith had a shocking 26.82 pound bag on day 1!  That is over a 5 pound fish average.  Dana and Andy won this tournament with a two day combined weight of 49.09 pounds in 10 largemouth bass.  In 2nd place,Paul Hall and Jarrid Turner weighed 45.56lbs in two days.  Moses Lake, Resident Aaron Echternkamp, fished with his 14 year old son Mason and finished in 3rd place with 42.38 lbs.  Overall the fisherman pulled in 335 fish  with a 3.2 lb. average.

We want to thank all our fishermen for participating and we celebrate the huge weights as a testament to the health of the fishing in Potholes Reservoir.  This is a catch/release tourney so they live to be caught another day.  The MarDon Open is a fundraiser for our Central Washington Fish Advisory Committee which is a non-profit 501-C3 that builds fish habitat boxes for Potholes Reservoir.

Our next event  is weekly BINGO each Wednesday night at The O’Sullivan Sportsman Resort with is 1 mile west of MarDon Resort.  Bingo is a $20 buy -in and we would love to see you there.  It starts at 7pm sharp and if you have any questions or need directions please call (509) 345-2651.
Walleye Fishers are giving mixed reports throughout the sand dunes.  Crab Creek is producing some limits but it has been challenging.

Smallmouth bass continue to be very active in the Lind Coulee.  You can also try the rocks around Goose Island for a fun bite.

Trout action at Warden Lake has been showing many limits using powerbait.  You can also try Corral Lake for trout or bass action.
