MarDon Resort Fresh News – July 27, 2023


The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1032.50 feet – dropping another 1.90 feet

this week. The water temperature is in the upper-70s on the main Reservoir. The water temps

in the sand dunes are in the mid-80s.


Walleye fishing has been fair this week. The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the

shallower fish in the sand dunes with #5 Flicker Shads – trolled, jerk baits, flukes, swim baits

and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a

crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and

the face of the dunes. Fish tight to weed lines! It is an early morning bite – slowing down

around 10:00am. The walleye will be moving out towards the face of the dunes soon as the

water is getting low and the baitfish begin to move out.


Largemouth Bass fishing remains good. Most fish being caught are in the 2–4-pound range.

Largemouth are being caught on a wide variety of baits. Jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos,

lipless crankbaits and frogs have been producing. Fish 2-15 feet of water. Fish the sand dunes.


Smallmouth Bass are being caught on the face of the dam, on the rocks around Goose Island

and in the sand dunes. Throw a drop shot rig with an 4” plastics, 5” grubs, deep diving crankbaits, and Senkos.


Trout are being caught in front of the State Park and off Medicare Beach. Troll # 5 or #7 Shad

Raps of Flicker Shads, Wedding Rings, and Needlefish. From shore cast Rooster Tails, Vibrax

spinners, or 5” curl tail grubs or fish the bottom with Power Bait. Warden Lake continues to be

good.


There are some Bluegill and Crappie being caught back in the sand dunes and up Lind Coulee. Throw worms for Bluegill and Trout Magnets for both Bluegill and Crappie. A few big perch are being caught as well.


Channel Catfish are being caught back in the sand dunes. Fish are being caught on cut bait,

Catfish Magic, Chicken Liver and even hotdogs! Most fish being caught are in the 8–12-pound

range.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1034.40 feet – dropping another 2.40 feet

this week. The water temperature is in the mid-70s on the main Reservoir. The water temps in

the sand dunes are in the mid-80s.


Walleye fishing continues to be good! The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with #5 Flicker Shads – trolled, jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. We had a great 4th of July celebration at MarDon Resort showing a bit of Americana.





The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1038.20 feet – dropping another 1.60 feet

this week. The water temperature is in the mid-70s on the main Reservoir. The water temps in

the sand dunes are in the mid to upper 70s.


Walleye fishing has been good this week! The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the

shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish

the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer.

Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. Fish tight to weed lines! It is an early morning bite – slowing down around 11:00am.

week. The water temperature is right around 72 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water

temps in the sand dunes are in the mid-70s.


Walleye fishing has picked up this week! The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the

shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish

the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer.

Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. Fish tight to weed lines! It is an early morning bite – slowing down around 11:00am.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1041.00 feet – dropping 1.10 feet this

week. The water temperature is right around 70 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water

temps in the sand dunes are in the low to mid 70s.


Fishing has been fair overall. A cold front and low pressure settled in for most of this past week. It is in its way out and the fishing will pick up this week for all species!


The walleye are in 5-20 feet right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, flukes, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes. The walleye fishing has been fair – but improving.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1044.65 feet – dropping .55 feet this week. Water temperatures are right around 65 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water temps in the sand dunes are in the low to mid 70s.


The walleye are done spawning and will be retreating to the main lake and back into the sand

dunes to recover and feed. The walleye will be 5-30 feet deep right now. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with jerk baits, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes.


Largemouth Bass fishing has been good this week. A lot of 2–4-pound fish are being caught.

The Largemouth are one spawning for the most pat. Fish are being caught on black & blue jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos and lipless crankbaits and frogs. Fish 2-10 feet of water. Fish the sand dunes.


Smallmouth Bass are being caught on the face of the dam, on the rocks around Goose Island a in the sand dunes. Throw ó oz. blade baits, 5” grubs, deep diving crankbaits, and Senkos.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1045.20 feet – dropping .15 feet this week. Water temperatures are right around 60 degrees on the main Reservoir. The water temps in the sand dunes are reaching the low to mid 70s.


The walleye are done spawning and will be retreating to the main lake and back into the sand

dunes to recover and feed. The walleye will be 5-30 feet deep right now depending on when

they completed their spawn. where they spawned. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes

with jerk baits, swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer. Fish the main channels back in the sand

dunes, Crab Creek, and the face of the dunes.

Water temperatures are right around 58 degrees on the main Reservoir. The dunes are

warming quickly with the warm weather. Temps are reaching the mid to upper-60s!


The walleye are very close to finishing up their spawn and will be retreating to the main lake

and back into the sand dunes to recover and feed. The walleye will be 5-30 feet deep right now depending on where they are in the spawn process and where they spawned. Fish the

shallower fish in the sand dunes with swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish

with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1044.65 feet – staying pretty much level

this week. Water temperatures are right around 54 degrees on the main Reservoir. The dunes

are warming quickly with the warm weather. Temps are reaching the mid-60s!


Walleye fishing has been tough this past week. The walleye are finishing up their spawn and will be in recovery mode for a week or so. The walleye will be in 5-30 feet right now depending on where they are in the spawn process. Fish the shallower fish in the sand dunes with swim baits and lipless crank baits. Fish the deeper fish with a Slow Death Hook – Smile Bade rig with a crawler and bottom bouncer.


MarDon Resort hosted the 2023 Rod Meseberg Spring Walleye Classic tournament this past

weekend. The tournament was a rough one this year with the walleye in the middle of the

spawn. A big congratulations to Team Priddy! They had six fish bags both day one and day two for a winning bag of 21.32 pounds for 12 fish. Their efforts earned them a $5,500 payout for the weekend. This included a $1,000 donation from MarDon Resort. Congratulations are also due to Shelby and Tanys Ross for receiving the Cool Under Pressure award for a day 2 come back with six fish for 9.74 pounds after blanking day 1 – finishing 13th overall! Largemouth Bass fishing has been very good this week and will continue to improve with the

warmer weather. The fish are in spawn/pre-spawn mode currently. Fish are being caught on

black & blue jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos and lipless crankbaits. Fish 2-10 feet of water.


Smallmouth Bass are being caught on the face of the dam, on the rocks around Goose Island a in the sand dunes. Throw ó oz. blade baits, 5” grubs, deep diving crankbaits, and Senkos.


Trout are being caught in front of the State Park and off Medicare Beach. Troll # 5 or #7 Shad

Raps of Flicker Shads. From Shore cast Rooster Tails or 5” curl tail grubs or fish the bottom with Power Bait. Warden Lake has been the hot Seep Lake this week.


No reports of panfish being caught yet, but bass fishermen have reported seeing Crappie and

Bluegill posting up pre-spawn back in the sand dunes around the willows.

MarDon Resort Fresh News – April 27, 2023

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1044.65 feet – rising .15 feet this past

week. Water temperatures are right around 52 degrees on the main Reservoir.


Walleye fishing has been fair this past week in the dunes. The walleye are finishing up their spawn and will be in recovery mode for a week or so. Walleye are being caught jigging ó oz. blade baits, jigging 3” minnow style baits on a 3/8 oz jig head in 14-28. Slow Death rigs with a 2 oz. bottom walker and a crawler are picking up fish as well. Fish the rocks and humps around Goose Island and the Crab Creek channel.


Largemouth Bass fishing has been good this week and will improve with the warmer weather.

Fish are being caught on black & blue jigs, swim jigs, chatter baits, Senkos and lipless crankbaits. Fish 2-10 feet of water.
