MarDon Resort Fresh News – May 24, 2022

MarDon Resort Fresh News – May 24, 2022

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1045.40 feet – rising 0.40 feet over the

past week bringing us to 1.10 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the mid-60s.

Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Upper Hampton is producing bigger fish if you put the

effort in to hike it. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The Pillar - Widgeon

Chain is producing some 3-5 lb. trout. Top baits from shore and by boat are PowerBait or

worms on the bottom as well as worms under a bobber. Others had success casting or

trolling Rooster Tail spinners.

The Largemouth Bass fishing has improved significantly this week with warmer and more

stable weather. The fish are bedding in the sand dunes finally! Top baits: ó oz black and

blue jig with a craw trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5” wacky rigged Senko, and a white

spinnerbait. Several reports of decent bites on frogs are coming in.

The rock piles between Goose Island and the face of the dam have been producing decent

smallmouth. ó oz. Norisada blade baits, tubes and Senkos have been the top baits there.

The smallmouth spawn has begun.

Walleye fishing has improved this week on the Potholes Reservoir. For the most part the

walleye spawn has finished up. With the spawn complete the walleye will move into the

sand dunes to feed and recover from the spawn. In the sand dunes fish 10-20 feet with a

slow death rig/ 2 oz bottom walker and crawler on weed lines. Other anglers are doing well

throwing 1/2-ounce spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, and swim jigs for walleye in 3-8 feet of water.

Lind Coulee continues to produce fish as well

Have finally had several catches of crappies and bluegill being reported – caught back in

the sand dunes. Look for spawning bluegill on shallow flats in the dunes. Look for the

crappies close to and in the willows. Throw Bobby Garland Baby Shads in Monkey Milk or

Blue Ice, the Fisher Brothers DS Fry in Sight Minnow color. Use a 1/32 oz jig head on a slip

bobber.
