MarDon Resort Fresh News – May 18, 2022
The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1045.00 feet – rising 0.50 feet over the
past week bringing us to 1.50 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in
the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the lower 60s.
Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both
quality and quantity rainbow trout. Upper Hampton is producing bigger fish if you put the
effort in to hike it. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The Pillar - Widgeon
Chain is producing some 3-5 lb. trout. Top baits from shore and by boat are PowerBait or
worms on the bottom as well as worms under a bobber. Others had success casting or
trolling Rooster Tail spinners.
The Largemouth Bass fishing has been fair this week due to some cold fronts and wind that
came through – but should pick up quite a bit quickly with decent weather forecast. The fish
are beginning to bed in the sand dunes. Top baits: ó oz black and blue jig with a craw
trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5” wacky rigged Senko, and a white spinnerbait.
The rock piles between Goose Island and the face of the dam have been producing decent
smallmouth. ó oz. Norisada blade baits, tubes and Senkos have been the top baits there.
The smallmouth spawn has begun.
Walleye fishing is picking up on the Potholes Reservoir. As the walleye finish up their spawn
– they will move to the humps and to the sand dunes to recover and feed. Fish from the
island up stream above M Road in Lind Coulee. Fish 15-25 feet with a slow death rig/ 2 oz
bottom walker and crawler. Troll at .8 to 1.0 mph. Several good catches have been reported
off the face of the dam jigging tube baits and blade baits. Use the same methods in the
main flow areas in the sand dunes.
Have finally had several catches of crappies and bluegill being reported – caught back in
the sand dunes. The fish were caught incidentally by walleye anglers. They should finish up
their spawn shortly – and start posting up in their usual spots – face of the dunes where the
water is flowing in from the wasteways.
