MarDon Resort Fresh News – May 31, 2022


The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1045.80 feet – rising 0.40 feet over the

past week bringing us to 0.70 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the mid-60s.


Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Upper Hampton is producing bigger fish if you put the

effort in to hike it. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The Pillar - Widgeon

Chain is producing some 3-5 lb. trout. Top baits from shore and by boat are PowerBait or

worms on the bottom as well as worms under a bobber. Others had success casting or

trolling Rooster Tail spinners.


Trout fishing on the Potholes Reservoir has been good this week. Several reports of 3–5-

pound fish have come in. Troll Wee Gee spoons, Needlefish, or #7 Flicker Shads at 2-3

miles per hour. Fish along Medicare Beach and in front of the State Park.


The bass fishing has been very good this week. The fish are spawning in the sand dunes.

Top baits: ó oz jig with a craw trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5” wacky rigged Senko, white

spinnerbait and topwater baits.


The rock piles between Goose Island and the face of the dam have been producing decent

smallmouth. ó oz. Norisada blade baits, tubes, crankbaits and Senkos have been the top

baits there.


Walleye fishing has improved this week on the Potholes Reservoir. With the spawn

complete the walleye will move into the sand dunes to feed and recover from the spawn. In

the sand dunes fish 10-20 feet with a slow death rig/ 2 oz bottom walker and crawler on

weed lines. Other anglers are doing well throwing 1/2-ounce spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, and

swim jigs for walleye in 3-8 feet of water.


Lind Coulee continues to produce fish as well.


Several more catches of crappies and bluegill are being reported – caught back in the sand

dunes. Look for spawning bluegill on shallow flats in the dunes. Look for the crappies close

to and in the willows. Throw Bobby Garland Baby Shads in Monkey Milk or Blue Ice, the

Fisher Brothers DS Fry in Sight Minnow color. Use a 1/32 oz jig head on a slip bobber.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1045.40 feet – rising 0.40 feet over the

past week bringing us to 1.10 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the mid-60s.


Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Upper Hampton is producing bigger fish if you put the

effort in to hike it. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The Pillar - Widgeon

Chain is producing some 3-5 lb. trout. Top baits from shore and by boat are PowerBait or

worms on the bottom as well as worms under a bobber. Others had success casting or

trolling Rooster Tail spinners.


The Largemouth Bass fishing has improved significantly this week with warmer and more

stable weather. The fish are bedding in the sand dunes finally! Top baits: ó oz black and

blue jig with a craw trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5” wacky rigged Senko, and a white

spinnerbait. Several reports of decent bites on frogs are coming in.


The rock piles between Goose Island and the face of the dam have been producing decent

smallmouth. ó oz. Norisada blade baits, tubes and Senkos have been the top baits there.

The smallmouth spawn has begun.


Walleye fishing has improved this week on the Potholes Reservoir. For the most part the

walleye spawn has finished up. With the spawn complete the walleye will move into the

sand dunes to feed and recover from the spawn. In the sand dunes fish 10-20 feet with a

slow death rig/ 2 oz bottom walker and crawler on weed lines. Other anglers are doing well

throwing 1/2-ounce spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, and swim jigs for walleye in 3-8 feet of water.

Have finally had several catches of crappies and bluegill being reported – caught back in

the sand dunes. Look for spawning bluegill on shallow flats in the dunes. Look for the

past week bringing us to 1.50 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the lower 60s.


Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Upper Hampton is producing bigger fish if you put the

effort in to hike it. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The Pillar - Widgeon

came through – but should pick up quite a bit quickly with decent weather forecast. The fish

are beginning to bed in the sand dunes. Top baits: ó oz black and blue jig with a craw

trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5” wacky rigged Senko, and a white spinnerbait.

– they will move to the humps and to the sand dunes to recover and feed. Fish from the

island up stream above M Road in Lind Coulee. Fish 15-25 feet with a slow death rig/ 2 oz

bottom walker and crawler. Troll at .8 to 1.0 mph. Several good catches have been reported

off the face of the dam jigging tube baits and blade baits. Use the same methods in the

main flow areas in the sand dunes.


Have finally had several catches of crappies and bluegill being reported – caught back in

the sand dunes. The fish were caught incidentally by walleye anglers. They should finish up

their spawn shortly – and start posting up in their usual spots – face of the dunes where the

water is flowing in from the wasteways.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1044.5 feet – rising 0.70 feet over the

past week bringing us to 2.00 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the lower 60s.


Trout fishing in the Seep Lake continues to do well. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. The

Pillar - Widgeon Chain is producing some 3-5 lb. trout. Top baits from shore and by boat are

PowerBait or worms on the bottom as well as worms under a bobber. Others had success

casting or trolling Rooster Tail spinners.

past week bringing us to 2.70 feet below full pool. The water temps remain in the mid-50s in

the main lake and the sand dunes are warming to the upper-50s.


Trout fishing in the Seep Lake has been very good. The Hampton Lakes are producing both

quality and quantity rainbow trout. Warden Lake has been very productive as well. Top baits

from shore and by boat are PowerBait or worms on the bottom as well as worms under a

bobber. Others had success casting or trolling Rooster Tail spinners.


The Largemouth Bass bite is back on back in the sand dunes because of the warming

temperatures. Top baits: ó oz black and blue jig with a craw trailer, a 3/8 oz. chatter bait, 5”

wacky rigged Senko and a white spinnerbait.

from Lind Coulee. Fish from the island up stream above M Road. Fish 15-25 feet with a

have been reported off the face of the dam jigging tube baits and blade baits.


No reports of crappie, bluegill, or perch yet – getting close though!
