MarDon Fresh News – March 4, 2022
The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1041.80 feet – rising .20 feet over the
past eleven days. This will be changing shorty as the Bureau of Reclamations has begun
priming and pumping the irrigation system that runs from Lake Roosevelt – through Banks
Lake, and eventually to the Potholes Reservoir. As part of this process water will fill – then
spill several times. The Potholes Reservoir remains frozen over – but it is beginning to
break up. The main Reservoir looks to be approximately 50% ice free – but no boat
launches are available yet – still iced in.
The current conditions are making it tough to fish the Potholes Reservoir currently. There is
too much ice to launch a boat – and not a lot of open water if you could get to it. Ice fishing
is not recommended at this time as the Bureau’s irrigation system work can cause quick
changes to the ice conditions that may not be visible to anglers.
The good news is with the forecast. It looks like we will have moderate temperatures over
the next several weeks. Last weeks cold snap did last a bit longer and was a bit colder than
forecasted but today- the temperature is in the low 60s and we have some wind that will
help eat the ice up!
