MarDon Fresh News – December 28, 2021

MarDon Fresh News – December 28, 2021

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1039.50 feet – rising 0.40 feet this week. The water temperature on the main lake is in the very close to 32 degrees. If we get a calm stretch, the Reservoir will begin to freeze over. We may get an opportunity do some ice fishing this year!

Species to target in the colder water are trout, walleye, and smallmouth bass. Trout fishing remains fair. Troll a #5 or #7 Flicker Shad, or Wedding Rings with worms in front of the Potholes State Park, the face of the sand dunes, and at the mouth of Lind Coulee to Perch Point. Troll in 10 - 30 feet of water. From shore fish Medicare Beach with Berkley PowerBait or marshmallows and worms.

The Walleye bite has been fair this past week. With the colder water temp – it’s a jigging game. Mark your fish – then drop a blade bait, ThinFisher, or fluke style bait down to the marks. Fish the humps on the face of the dunes, the rocks around Goose Island, the mouth of Crab Creek, and up in Lind Coulee. Look for walleye in the 20 - 40-foot range.

Well – we kind of went from needing some colder weather to frozen up pretty quickly! There is still open water along and around the Frenchman’s and Winchester wasteways. The sand dunes are freezing up/frozen over. Currently there is open water at the face of the dunes – but with the current temperatures – it will be frozen soon.
