MarDon Fresh News – November 09, 2021
The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is at 1035.51 – rising 2.31 feet since
Tuesday of last week. With the gates closing, the water level will rise rapidly. The water
temperature on the main lake is 50-52 degrees. The water back in the sand dunes is in the
low 50s as well.
Trout fishing has been good this week. Troll a #5 or #7 Flicker Shad, or Wedding Rings with
worms in front of the Potholes State Park, the face of the sand dunes, and at the mouth of
Lind Coulee to Perch Point. Troll in 10 - 30 feet of water. From shore fish Medicare Beach
with Berkley PowerBait or marshmallows and worms.
Walleye: The Walleye bite has been good this week. Troll a #7 or #5 Flicker Shad Flicker
Shad on the face of the dunes over the humps in 8-15 feet of water. Troll a Slow
Death/Smile Blade/crawler rig with a 2 oz. bottom walker in 10-30 feet depth at .8 - 1.2 mph.
Fish the humps on the face of the dunes, the rocks around Goose Island, the mouth of Crab
Creek, and up in Lind Coulee. Cast a Strike King J300D Jerkbait along the face of the dam.
Jig a รณ oz. blade bait in all the spots mentioned above as well.
Smallmouth Bass: The Smallmouth bass fishing has been fair to good this week. Fish for
Smallmouth bass along the face of the dam and the rocky area between Goose Island and
the dam and the face of the sand dunes. Use a 4” wacky rigged Senko, Missile Baits Ned
Bomb, Skirted Heart Throb XL and #7 Rapala shad Raps in 4-25 feet of water. Jerkbaits
and swimbaits will pick up bigger fish this time of year along the face of the dam.
Largemouth Bass: Bass fishing has been good this week. Fish the face of the sand dunes –
look for steeper drops and work deep diving crankbaits or Skirted hula grubs and jigs down
the slope. Use a blade bait or jigging spoon for deeper fish. Fish 0-10 feet early and move
to the 15–30-foot range mid-day. There are some good largemouth hanging out on the face
of the dam.
Panfish: Fair on the face of the sand dunes. Crappie and bluegill are being caught on the
face of the sand dunes and around the mouth of Crab Creek. Troll a #5 Flicker Shad or use
electronics to mark the fish and vertically jig or use a slip bobber with a 1/32 oz head and
a Baby Shad or DS Fry.
There are ducks in the area – this past week has been good. Mixed bag of Widgeon, Pintail,
Teal, and a few Mallards. We have not had a big push from the north just yet.
